Setting Goals - Are you good at it?

Let’s talk about goals. How can you not only set them but follow through?

Make the goal specific

Make it bigger than you think it should be

Make sure your goal has dates and it is measurable.

Sounds easy, right?

One of the things I have said a lot, if you know me, is that you need to write things down. That is because when you put pen to paper and list your thoughts, etc. it makes it more real. So, you will want to write down your goals. What tends to happen with goals is that we lose interest and our goals fall off the radar. Revisiting the goal and the outcome on paper will help you stay on track. Once you write your goal down and put it somewhere you can see it daily that will help keep the goal alive.

How you feel about a goal is EVERYTHING. Ask yourself, why do I want this goal? Most of us usually feel like if we achieve our goal, we will feel better and accomplished. Actually, the opposite is true. You need to start off feeling how you would like to end up feeling after you’ve achieved your goal, right at the beginning. From that good feeling is how you create the result you want. Make sense? Start off with how you want to end up feeling, which will drive you toward your goal.

The only thing that prevents us from feeling good about our goals is our negative thinking and our thoughts about it. Especially if you don’t have your goals written down as your reminder each day, you will lose interest and begin to fill up with self-doubt. Remember it is normal to feel doubt and negative thoughts. It most certainly does not mean for you to stop moving forward. You may have some thought work to do to get yourself back on track.

Really look at your goal and feel how it makes you feel. If you don’t feel good about it, then you will have to possibly overcome some obstacles emotionally and get back to feeling good about it in order to achieve your goal.

If you look at your goals and feel really good about them, then it is time to take action!!
